Many adult children express feeling like a child trapped in a grown-up body, which signifies the presence of the Inner Child. However, there is so much more to consider. Some adult children may discover they have more than one Inner Child, such as a five-year-old, a ten-year-old, and even an Inner Teenager.
As adults, we may encounter situations that trigger memories from our childhood, leading us to react in ways that seem unwarranted, either by lashing out at ourselves or others, or by withdrawing to protect ourselves when it feels unnecessary.
Through emotional recovery, we learn to connect with that wounded child within us, who is ready to listen if we invest the time to build trust and intimacy. Engaging with our Inner Child can evoke feelings of joy and playfulness, resulting in a lightness and optimism in our lives. This connection fosters trust, spontaneity, and warmth.
